The first reaction to The Plunge is typically one of humorous fun. It is enjoyable to watch children examine it, trying to figure out where his head went, how he can hold his breath for so long. In Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, where it is possible to have fun with a refreshing jump into a freshwater lake on a hot summer day, oh, what memories a sculpture can elicit. What is holding us back from taking the big plunge in our own lives? The Plunge has become a symbol of action. Take the first step, make a commitment, dive in and get started. It’s amazing what we can accomplish once we take the big plunge.

I started sculpting in high school. Within a couple of years, I started making kinetic sculptures and sold them at art fairs. Over the years, I have developed my style and craftsmanship and moved into showing and selling my works in many galleries located all around the country. I continue to develop my kinetic sculpture style.

My goal in the pursuit of making art is to reflect upon and represent the underlying, spiritual reality of things. Often the truly important things in life can pass us by. Moments in which we transcend our limitations and act bravely or heroically can disappear due to the sheer rapidity of life. I strive to capture, to suspend these moments so we can reflect upon them and let them interact with our lives in a meaningful way. My hope is that when people see my work, they can see themselves or some aspect of their lives reflected and that their spirit will respond.

I was inspired by the piece at the bottom of the pendulum and worked up from there. The piece gently sways if tugged, but otherwise is quite stable and secure in its grounding.

Growing up on a farm, Cindy knew the value of steel. But through exploration, she discovered that there was rare beauty in it as well. At a young age, she had a calling for taking something previously used and diminished and making it once again useful and beautiful. With time, this creativity has only increased and led her to be comfortable in every medium, whether it be cooking, design or painting, but something would always pulled her back to steel.

Spauling is a durable bronze sculpture that can withstand any type of weather condition. He loves attention, especially if it involves children petting him and riding on his back!

Artist Statement
My artwork over the last 25 years has depicted my emotions in my subjects that uplift the spirit and put out positive energy into our difficult and complicated world. For many years I have sculpted women experiencing joy, faith, gratitude, and love to name a few of the feelings I have explored.

Recently, I have been exploring two paths simultaneously. One path is to find iconic images of nobility and hope in the human spirit. The other path is involved in depicting the pure and uncomplicated aspects of animals and their loving spirits. The more mature I become as an artist, the more important it is for me to leave an artistic legacy of love and humor.

This sweet, romantic sculpture depicts two cranes in a moment of courting. Their heads and necks sway in a slow, hypnotic fashion while their feet dance in a deliberate style.

Artist Statement
As a public sculptor of forged steel art, I create life sized indigenous wildlife sculptures. Some of my favorite subjects are turtles, herons, ravens and fish. In the last few years, I have also been incorporating the human figure into my hand forged and welded art. I have sculpted for over 40 years since completing my formal art training. I enjoy studying wildlife, capturing their natural gestures and then creating them in metal.
