Keeper of Memories

June 16, 2020 By Hutchinson Public Arts Leave a Comment

James Church, Minneapolis MN

Depot

$14,000

In the tradition of Love Locks sculptures ”Keeper of Memories” serves the community as a sculptural placeholder, a repository of our best memories. Locks or ribbons can adorn the sculpture- signifying our hopes, our loves, and/ or the cherished memories of those lost to us.

Memories can be a strange thing. Alone and unshared they can cause isolation and a sense of not being present or engaged with the world. When shared, though, memories can bring about closeness and the realization that, though people seem different at first, comparing our memories and loves causes us to see that we all cherish similar thoughts, hopes and dreams for the future. Sharing what we hold dear and witnessing the sharing of others can help further our way towards unity.
