Fountain of Life

May 7, 2021 By Stephanie Nelson Leave a Comment

Darwin Wolf, Sioux Falls, SD

Main St & 1st Ave S. (N.E.)

https://www.wolfbronze.com/

Media:  Bronze            Sale Price:  $13,700

Finding any one sculpture to be typical of Darwin Wolf’s style isn’t likely but you will see influences by Calder, Rodin, Michelangelo and Magritte. Darwin uses a variety of subject matter drawn from many interests but his passion is the historical human figure. He sculpts by inspiration and will move from realistic portrayal to conceptual expression, from stop action bronze to a quick anatomy study. As a result he is an extremely versatile artist who can satisfy a wide variety of criteria for commissions and public art.

It was Darwin’s intensive study of the Italian Renaissance that brought him back to his faith. Since the vast majority of the art of that period was inspired by scripture, Wolf couldn’t ignore what he was trying to rebel against. He also saw that art and spirituality are similar in that they convey “otherness”, something other than what is tangible.

Time to Fly

May 7, 2021 By Stephanie Nelson Leave a Comment

Kyle Fokken, Minneapolis, MN

Main St & 1st Ave S (S.W.)

https://kylefokken.com/home.html

Media:  Bronze, Steel               Sale Price:  $10,000

Time is money, money is time…time flies when you are having fun….

The title of this piece references the saying ‘when pigs fly’ as something will happen if only the impossible happens first. This piece is about how your time is your only true commodity and that impossible things will happen when you use your money for good and for fun.

“I am a mixed media sculptor who combines diverse imagery into hybrid sculptures that explore cultural contexts between people.  I use vintage toy and ‘folk art’ aesthetics to explore the passing down of cultural values between generations.  I make artwork that tantalizes the eye and invites the audience to linger and look deeper at the work and reflect on what we believe about ourselves. “

Kimber Fiebiger, Minneapolis, MN

Main St & 3rd Ave S. (N.E.)

http://artbykimber.com/

Media:  Bronze               Sale Price:  $9,000

“As a world of many people and cultures we work together to hold our Earth sacred”

Kimber’s Fine Art bronze statues are a contemporary representation of the beauty of the human body while preserving the tradition of bronze sculpting. Each piece is her attempt to create a human figure that exemplifies balance between the geometry of the human lines and the fluidity and energy of the body movement.

Kimber has been creating sculptures for over 30 years. Her artwork represents her two very different artistic sides – someone who has fun but also values and admires the human body and their spiritual side. Kimber’s sculptures can be found throughout the United States as large-scale public art installations and exhibitions, as well as numerous large-scale commission pieces.

Gaia

Karman Rheault, Moorhead, MN

Citizens Bank Park

https://www.snowfirestudio.com/

Media:  Corten Steel                      Sale Price:  $8,000

This sculpture is a personification of the first Greek goddess, Gaia.  In Greek mythology, she is considered the mother of all life and the soul of the earth.  This piece is a visual inspiration and reminder that our planet is beautiful and precious, and, as its current caretakers, we need to take steps to better protect it.  We can all help by making conscious choices that can, in aggregate, ensure the preservation or our environment for future generations to enjoy.

Using a plasma cutter and welder, Karman Rheault creates 3-Dimensional sculptures from new and recycled metal. She makes a wide range of work from jewelry, to indoor sculptural pieces and large scale outdoor work all depending on where inspiration takes her.  She uses the inherent colors of the metal and adds color and contrast with paint, by heating it with a torch, or rusting it to produce rich natural patinas. A Native of Bismarck, ND Rheault received her art education from Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Southern Illinois University. Her home and studio are in rural Moorhead, MN.

Triangle Play

Sunghee Min, Roseville, MN

Ridgewater College

Media:  Painted Steel                Sale Price:  $7,000

“I work primarily with metal, especially manufactured sheets, bars, angles and other shaped products.  I utilize patterns, repetitions, surface textures, and bright colors and combine them into a unifying motif to make an object that offers long lasting visual excitement.  My process resembles quilt making in the way that a small shape or a unit of small shapes are repeated into a larger area.   I find this accumulative way of working rewarding and sustainable.”

“Public art has been a recent focus in my art making career and I have been really enjoying creating works that reach out to broader spectrum of audiences. “
